Defence

Every Country, big or small, needs strong defensive forces, to protect its citizens. We, The Conservative Party, are 100% dedicated to our Armed Forces. We are a pragmatic party, especially when things as serious as defence are involved. We are fully committed to keeping Trident, the ultimate insurance policy. We will help veterans get back into work, and them all the support they need.
Our Party is the only party committed to real, tangible and secure defence policies. We have delivered, we will deliver and we will keep this nation safe.
Maintaining Defence Spending
One of our biggest achievements as a party last term, despite being out of government, was being able to keep defence spending at two percent of GDP. We will continue to commit to this important spending decision to ensure the security of our nation.
Committing to NATO
The Conservative Party are keen supporters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, believing that it is a force for both good and for peace. We will fight to ensure we remain allied to the strongest powers of the world.
Naval Expansion
The Party recommits to expansion of our Navy; it is increasingly important as warfare moves away from its conventional forms that Britain is able to deal with an amalgamation of issues ranging from counter-terrorism to humanitarian aid and the prevention of piracy. We aim to bring into active service, the two Aircraft Carriers which have been mothballed by this last Government, and will commission a total of six Type-45 Destroyers, which will significantly strengthen the fleet and complete the work that the Blair Ministry had failed to finish. These measures will be complemented by our vision of building an innovative Naval Base in a strategic location, assessed by the government in a full and comprehensive review, ensuring that the Navy, and by extension, our Armed Forces - will be able to deploy anywhere, at any time.
Retaining Trident
Firmly believing in widely accepted idea of a nuclear deterrent, the Conservative Party believe that Vanguard class submarines and the Trident missile program is the ultimate insurance policy for the United Kingdom's safety. We will fight to ensure our ultimate insurance policy remains just that whilst also launch an enquiry into making Trident more effective and better equipped.
Expanding our forces
We will pledge to increase the Royal Marines by 22,500 and the Special Forces by 2,500 by the end of this parliament. This will go a long way to ensure that the UK is able to deal with increasingly complex threats domestically and overseas, and will cement our place as a world power.
Supporting our veterans
At the same time, we will look to increase support for Military Veterans and will encourage entrance to the teaching professions, as well as ensuring continued employment in the Policing and Private Security Sectors. Many veterans find themselves unemployed after their service, and we wish to put a hold to that through education and improving job availability. We will also increase funding for Veterans in the field of mental health support.
