Home Nations

Home Nations

The Conservative Party has always believed in unionism, hence why it is in our name. A Conservative government will always work to protect our sacred union and will block attempts to undermine it. This is why we will block attempts at any further devolution and will always favour power going to local governments rather than devolved parliaments. We will invest in infrastructure to make all four home nations a better place to live. We will ensure that the history of each of the home nations is taught in schools so that our children will be aware of their past.
Scottish Independence
The Conservative Party will not allow another referendum on Scottish Independence. The once-in-a-generation referendum should be respected as such. The Scottish people voted resoundingly to remain in the United Kingdom, and a Conservative government will stick to that promise. We will also promise to ensure the union remains in tact whilst that is the desire of the people of the home nations.
Cabinet Offices
During the colonial days there used to be colonial offices such as Secretary of State for India and Secretary of State for the Colonies. These outdated offices still exist in the form of Secretary of State for England, Wales and Scotland. We would abolish these outdated offices which serve no purpose on MHOC, due to the lack of devolution.
Devolution
We will remain fiercely opposed to devolution in all home nations. It undermines the unionism in the United Kingdom which has made us achieve so much as a nation. Bills such as the latest Scotland Bill and the Northern Ireland Bill will all be opposed by the party.
Enterprise Zones
Across all of the home nations we will set up Enterprise Zones. They will be setup in areas suffering long-term decline to help promote regeneration, by giving businesses more favourable conditions for investment and industry.
Unifying Education
The Conservative Party supports uniting the education system of the United Kingdom so that we can each take the best aspects of our different education systems and merge them together to make one better education system which works for all home nations.
Infrastructure
The Conservative Party will invest in infrastructure in all of the home nations. In Scotland, this would include Scottish transport infrastructure, beginning with completing the M8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow, converting the A9 into a dual carriageway up to Inverness as well as re-opening the Waverley rail line from Edinburgh to Carlisle. In Wales, this will include investing in the Valleys and of West Wales which are some of the poorest places in Europe due to them being neglected by left wing governments. In Northern Ireland we would invest in allowing more cross border trade to happen with the Republic of Ireland so both nations can benefit from each other's trade.
IRA Investigation
We will conduct a full investigation into the conduct of Sinn Fein leaders, including Gerry Adams, as well as into the current activities of the PIRA. We will use the full force of the law and anti-terrorism legislation to crack down on these activities and stabilise Northern Ireland. We support the principled Opposition of the Northern Irish Unionist Parties.
Right to Assembly
Peaceful assembly is an important part of any functioning democracy, and we will produce legislation that will ease the process of organising public assemblies, and protect your right to assembly. We should never give in to threats of violence to stop a peaceful and lawful assembly.
