Foreign Policy

Foreign Policy

In government, our primary priority shall be establishing closer relations with our allies and with other nations around the world, whilst asserting ourselves on the world stage to gain meaningful benefits for all. From reforming the EU to constructive talks with China and the Middle East, our aims are peace and prosperity in the world. In the Middle East, we shall be addressing the refugee crisis whilst entering significant talks to end the Syrian Civil War.
Special Relationship
The Conservative party supports and is committed to the Transatlantic Alliance and seeks to maintain the ‘Special Relationship’ between the United States of America and the United Kingdom. We support a strengthening of US-UK ties on a strategic, military and economic front.
The Commonwealth
We fully support the Commonwealth. We wish to preserve current relations and want to build on those relations, by expanding trade, services and co-operation between the UK and the rest of the Commonwealth.
Pragmatism
We support a pragmatic Foreign Policy, in the sense that we will actively and fully seek to cooperate with nations that align with us on a specific issue, but not necessarily all issues. Old misconceptions, rivalries and incidents will be left aside in a changing world.
International Cooperation
The Conservative Party is proud of Britain’s international role and seeks to maintain this role by remaining a key partner of international organizations of cooperation such as NATO and the United Nations. We are devoted to promoting human rights everywhere on the globe and seek to work together with other nations and organisations in order to do so.
 Moralistic Foreign Policy
The Conservative Party is committed to a moralistic Foreign Policy. We will be committed to promoting Human Rights everywhere through expanding diplomatic contacts and engaging in constructive dialogue. We are firm supporters of stability and democracy, wherever in the world. We shall not shy away from engaging in dialogue with authoritarian nations.
Attacking ISIS
We will aid the Iraqi government as it aims to purge its land of the murderous rapists and thieves known as ISIS. This will consist of training the Iraqi army, relaying intelligence and technology to fight ISIS and providing equipment. We will provide supplies, air support, and training for Peshmerga in its quest to defeat ISIS. By working on individual causes - such as facing ISIS in the Middle East, and fighting against ISIS recruiting at home, we will defeat this vile group. Air strikes will continue - they have already saved many lives, and we will continue to use a combination of our military and our domestic policies encouraging peace and tolerance.
Israel
In conjunction with our review into the middle east, we cannot forget our allies or partners in the region. A Conservative led government would support Israel in its quest to remain a peaceful, democratic nation in the face of adversity. We firmly recognise Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state. Recognition of Hamas’ terrorist grouping and government would be detrimental to peace talks and a two-state solution - we will oppose Palestinian recognition.
Ukraine
The Ukraine crisis has spiralled out of control in the last couple of years. From revolution, to annexation, the civil war, nothing we have done has worked. The end of all fighting in the East of Ukraine is paramount to any peace agreement. We will make efforts to put together this agreement where other countries have failed. Following on from this agreement, we will propose to host talks with Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus to that we can find a lasting agreement.
Dialogue
We believe that ‘peace talks’ are necessary to resolve the situation in both Syria, Yemen and Ukraine. The Conservative Party believes a purely military intervention will be insufficient and we support the dialogue between the Syrian government and the Opposition. We also support dialogue about peace between the Kurdish insurgents and the Turkish Government. We will pressure both sides to come to a commitment that respects democracy and human rights.
Building Embassies
We will continue to promote British goods, services, trade and influence by building more embassies and consulates.
Kurdish Autonomy
The Conservative Party supports more autonomy for the Kurds in Syria, Iraq and Turkey, and considers this a necessary condition for a lasting peace in the region. Likewise, we condemn terrorist actions attempting to gain Kurdish autonomy believing that with violence, Kurdish autonomy is impossible.
